"Freunde der ART COLOGNE e.V." is once again purchasing art on behalf of two Cologne museums

Works by Joëlle Dubois and Chargesheimer for Museum Ludwig and the Kölnisches Stadtmuseum

This year, two Cologne museums can look forward to new additions with artistic relevance, which have been made possible through the dedicated actions of the "Freunde der ART COLOGNE e.V." A total of 13 works could be acquired at the 56th ART COLOGNE for Museum Ludwig and the Kölnisches Stadtmuseum. The total purchase amount of 22,700 Euro is being financed through membership fees.

The non-profit friends's association, which was called to life in 2002 by gallery owners, art dealers and collectors, thus once again responds to the wishes of the cultural institutions of Cologne. Since its founding, "Freunde der ART COLOGNE e.V." has secured well over 100 works of art that have been presented at the world's first art fair. The goal: to promote art and culture institutions in the cathedral city. The purchases will be made available to the museums as permanent loans and will be accessible to a broad public The support of the friends's association contributes decisively to increasing the cultural attractiveness and importance of the region.

In accordance with the association rules, the members assembled during the 56th ART COLOGNE on 19 November 2023 and agreed on the following purchases:

Twelve drawings of an untitled series by Joëlle Dubois, 2019 to 2021, will go on permanent loan to Museum Ludwig (Thomas Rehbein Galerie, 19,200 Euro). The works address the effects of social media on the lives of the predominantly female users and will in future complement the graphic collection of the museum.

For the Kölnisches Stadtmuseum, the friends' association purchased the photograph "In der Mittelstrasse“ (In Mittelstrasse) from Chargesheimer, early 1950s (Galerie Julian Sander, 3,500 Euro). The work shows the Mittelstraße in Cologne shortly prior to the Shrove Monday procession.

All artworks that have been acquired by the "Freunde der ART COLOGNE e.V." can be found under www.freundederartcologne.de. Those interested in art are also invited to inform themselves at the website about a possible membership.
