"WOMEN IN THE ART MARKET" – SUSTAINABLY ANCHORING FEMALE EMPOWERMENT
How can diversity be recognised and promoted in the art market?
The systematic researching of the role of women as a heterogeneous group of actors in the art market in general, but also the discussion of specific individual examples is to a great extent still a gap in the discourse revolving around art market research. How can diversity be recognised and promoted in the art market? What networks between artists, gallery owners, collectors, curators or culture journalists can be determined? What strategies with regard to female empowerment and female entrepreneurship can be determined, and how can discourse relating to these sustainably influence the art market?
The panel discussion organised jointly by Koelnmesse and ZADIK will point out, critically reflect upon and discuss contexts, both concerning societal developments, gender discourses and socio-demographic aspects, as well as network and market strategy analyses with respect to women in the art market, especially of the 20th/21st centuries extending into the present.
The discussion was recorded and subsequently published by way of the scholarly blog of the interdisciplinary research and education project "Women in the Art Market“ of ZADIK | Central archive for German and international art market research at the University of Cologne.
