Two winners of the ART COLOGNE competition at once
Lenia Friedrichs and Sina Guntermann designed Gaffel Kölsch bars
Since 2012, students of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) have been designing a Kölsch bar exclusively for ART COLOGNE. For this competition, the Cologne-based private brewery Gaffel donates prize money of 1,111 euros every year. In addition, the winning design will be produced in a limited edition.
Due to the postponement caused by corona, two winners were presented at ART COLOGNE 2021.
Sina Guntermann, the 2020 prize winner, convinced the jury with the design "Le Grand K.ölsch". She places a Kölsch bar under two glass bells and adds the words "Le Grand K.ölsch" to the hand drawing of this still life. With this, the Cologne director, screenwriter and photographer refers to the Urkilo ("Le Grand K"), which was kept in Paris under two glass bells in a safe at the International Bureau of Weights and Measures.
In 2021, the prize goes to Lenia Friedrichs. In her artistic concept, the classic Kölsch glass appears in the costume of a champagne flute. The cylindrical 0.2l bar is transformed into a scaled-down glamorous glass object by a silhouette-like camouflage. The contrasts with the everyday drink beer and the sparkling wine consumed on special occasions become present.
Lenia Friedrich has been studying at the Academy of Media Arts since 2018. She produces animated music and explainer videos. She also offers creative workshops for children and shares her knowledge of digital drawing, stop-motion and other artistic processes.
