The latest ART COLOGNE news

More compact, clearer, more concentrated:
in April 2009, ART COLOGNE will be held for the first time in Hall 11. Located directly adjacent to the new Entrance South, the art event is once again presenting its face to the city. Set in a modern, attractive building offering easy accessibility for arriving exhibitors and visitors, the new compact layout will occupy two levels. Modern classics and post-war art will occupy Level 1. Level 2 will present contemporary galleries. Open Space and New Contemporaries, proven successful platforms for young and cutting-edge production, will be integrated into level 2, placing them directly in the context of the current market.
The members of the international Advisory Board have been named — these include:
Hendrik A. Berinson (Gallery Berinson, Berlin), Jörn Bötnagel (BQ, Cologne), Valerie Carberry (Valerie Carberry Gallery Chicago), Darren Flook (Hotel, London), Steve Hanson (China Art Objects Galleries, Los Angeles), Dennis Kimmerich (Gallery Dennis Kimmerich, Düsseldorf), Christian Nagel (Gallery Christian Nagel, Berlin/Cologne), Niklas Svennung (Gallery Chantal Crousel, Paris), and Hans Mayer (Gallery Hans Mayer, Düsseldorf).
New Talents has been renamed “New Positions”:
ART COLOGNE’s successful collaboration with the Federal Association of German Galleries and Editions (BVDG) to promote selected young artists will continue under a revised name: “New Positions”. This change is intended to reflect the topographical complexity of new creative production. Individual shows of selected artists will continue to be found at the stands of the galleries representing them.
Five Years of Open Space – A successful experiment celebrates an anniversary
In 2009, OPEN SPACE will celebrate its fifth anniversary with ART COLOGNE. Liberating the art fair from traditional staging, embracing booth-less, project-oriented architecture adapted to each individual art presentation, Open Space has succeeded as a laboratory for new art positions to encounter the market on their own terms. In preparation for the fifth anniversary, an international committee consisting of Vasif Kortun (Istanbul), Stefanie Kreuzer (Morsbroich) and Beatrix Ruf
(Zurich) has been assembled to recommend notable young artists for presentation, along with their galleries, at Open Space 2009.
